Chironji – Buchanania lanzan, Charoli is called Priyala in Ayurveda. It is used as a cooking spice. It is aphrodisiac, nourishing, cardiac tonic but it may cause indigestion.

Description

Chironji is an evergreen tree of deciduous origin that grows to a height of 18 meters featuring a straight trunk and tomentose branches. The plant is found growing in semi-evergreen forests, open and dry forests, lowland forests, dry and moist deciduous forests.

Chironji is very nutritious as it is rich in proteins and dietary fibre and low in calories. Due to this property of the plant, it may help with strength to the body, relieves tiredness, and improves immunity. The methanolic properties of chironji may be found to be protective against stress-causing factors

It is also beneficial in managing diabetes as it reduces blood glucose levels due to its antioxidant properties. Chironji is useful in wound healing due to its astringent and antiinflammatory properties. It also prevents any skin infections due to its antibacterial properties.
